Maternity wear

I am six months pregnant and I have started to show. I am not able to fit
into any of my clothes and I am forced to hide behind dowdy kurtas. I used to love dressing up to work and now I am finding it difficult to look stylish. Can you suggest some clothing options that can help me look like a yummy mummy?

Combine five pieces of clothing for at least six different looks - mix the tunic with the skirt or pants; the jacket with the dress, pants, or skirt; or wear the dress on its own. You can get a few more outfits out of the mix by adding roomy non-maternity sweaters and tops. Tight midi-length pencil skirts accentuate the bump. Heavier fabrics can even disguise the fact that you're expecting when worn high-waisted. Wear florals, as it's a fun way to accentuate the bump.

I am in my early 30s and I have a pear-shaped body. I have always been told that I have great legs. But I am not sure how to show off my best assets. Can you suggest some skirts or dresses that can make me look sophisticated and classy? - Vani Verma

Dresses are a great way to accomplish both your tasks at once, draw the eyes upward to your torso, while creating a tight waistline and covering up your midsection. Look for A-line dresses or those that have a tulip-skirt, and avoid tight ones that stick to your hips. Dresses get bonus points if they are banded around the waist and cover up your shoulders to give the illusion of bulk. Shirts that have adornment near the neck elongate the shoulder and neckline. Select shirts which have beading or bows near the neck. Skirts that hit the knee or ankle are perfect for pear-shaped ladies. Look for skirts that start just above your hips near your waist, and are no shorter than just above the knee.

I want to wear off-shoulder tops and dresses. So, what kind of lingerie should I pick for them? Are strapless bras comfortable? - Nirohi

In order to avoid a strapless from sliding down, try looking for a bra that has rigid boning and stay-put strips for extra grip. Strapless and backless are great if you find yourself a top that might be airy in the back or even low-plunging. In this case, you might want to keep your back bare. Sometimes the back line of a bra ruins the mood of a piece.

I am starting my new job at a corporate set-up. I need your help creating a good formal wardrobe. What are the essentials? - Sameer

Every man should own at least one white and light blue dress shirts. There is nothing more attractive than a man in a well-cut, well-fitted dark-coloured suit. So, get a tailor who'll help you achieve the best fit. Also, if you don't find anything in the stores, have it custom-made. A well-fit v-neck cardigan will go well with almost anything. Apart from these, one other item every man should own is a good pair of shoes. No outfit is complete without shoes and you can ruin your entire look by wearing a cheap pair.
