Your love can land in the soup or you can add love to your soup. The first happens when your love is not properly oriented. The second happens when your love with another is consciously oriented to a spirit of self-giving and sacrifice.

Some intellectuals posed a question to a group of kids barely five to ten years old. The question, "What does love mean?"

The answers they got shook all the intellect out of their brains and really surprised them. Here are some of those responses:

"When my grandmother got severe joint pain in the legs she couldnt bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time even when his hands had severe joint pain too. Thats love."

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs."

"Love is what makes you smile even when youre tired."

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt then he wears it every day."

"Love is when my mom makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is okay."

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with someone who you hate."
"Love is when mom sees dad sweating and smelling and still says he is more handsome than the most handsome Hollywood actor."

"During my piano recital, I was on stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing in that audience. I wasnt scared anymore. I think that's love."

"Love is when mom gives dad the best piece of chicken."

Those answers in so many ways echo so much the words of Saint Paul about love - "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, love always perseveres" (I Corinthians 13:4-7).

Has your love relationship measured up to those qualities?
