Forging a new path

There is something very novel, alluring and captivating about being a pioneer, a person who makes a new discovery/invention or even someone who initiates a new plan, curriculum or course of action. Those who follow the beaten track in a very run-of-the-mill way do not usually elicit that much acclaim as those who initiate new and unique programmes. This is especially so if these programmes ameliorate the lives of several perhaps disadvantaged or challenged people all because one dared to dream big, be innovative and "think out of the box". Ralph Waldo Emerson could not have said more aptly, "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

Leaving a trail will not come without its share of trials and tribulations in the form of obstacles and hurdles. There are bound to be detractors who will criticise even one's heartfelt endeavours. Flak and opposition will be ready companions at every stage of one's journey, but the important thing is to summon up the required vestiges of confidence, verve and determination to fructify one's pioneering plans with firmness and not give up.

One must stand tall in the face of daunting, overpowering odds, gird up one's loins and give the task your best shot. For this, one should necessarily be fueled with grit and tenacity to further one's objectives by being resilient and bouncing back with courage, when required. The pioneering activist may also be hassled by "starting problems". For this, one should not get discouraged but one should remind one's self that "Even a journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step."

It is easy to chicken out, lose heart and give up hope, but one should remind one's self that "Success is never final and failure is never fatal." The redeeming power of 'HOPE' should emblazon itself like a rainbow in one's sky, as 'HOPE' can be an acronym that stands for 'Hold On, Pain Ends'. For remember, in the final analysis, for every campaign, action or blueprint, there can be three options or responses: To give up, to give in or to give it all you've got. The choice is yours.
